It should be immediately apparent that this work is heavily indebted to the theories and paintings of Piet Mondrian. Nevertheless, this composition breaks two of his cardinal  rules - firstly, the use of the colour green and secondly the use of diagonals. In addition,  of course the painting is clearly figurative. However, as Mondrian said - "Every true artist  has been inspired more by the beauty of lines and colour and the relationships between  them than by the concrete subject of the picture."
